INSP 3 - Basement Conversions

Wednesday, February 06, 2008  ·  3:00 PM - 4:30 PM

The increasing use of basement as finished area puts pressure on builders to turn it into a comfortable, dry space. Also, energy codes are increasing their demands for basement insulation. However, these walls have often been linked with moisture and mold problems. Recent field measurements and computer modeling have been used to demonstrate the heat and moisture flows of this below grade space, and the risks of selected assemblies.

By attending this session, participants will

1. Understand the basic temperature and moisture relationships of below grade building enclosures
2. Identify the moisture risks and sources in basement insulation retrofits
3. Judge the relative risks of failure for various insulation options
