WC 2 - Duct Diagnostics: Level 1
Tuesday, September 26, 2006 · 3:30 PM - 5:00 PM
There are several tests for assessing the condition and performance of duct systems. Some tests require substantial investments of equipment and time, and others can be done cheaply and quickly. Can we learn from a visual inspection and screening tests whether the duct system is worth saving? Without expensive test equipment or extensive HVAC experience, what can be learned by real estate inspectors, home performance auditors, or weatherization staff? If the customer can’t afford everything, what issues are the most important?
By attending this session, participants will
1. Discover how to conduct a preliminary screening, including a visual inspection, cheap and quick tests to help determine the presence of problems, and an assessment of the need for further testing
2. Find out what minimal tools and equipment are needed to do a preliminary evaluation of a duct system
3. Learn to help the homeowner decide whether to repair or replace the duct system
