Wood Products: Properties & Performance

Many building materials are wood or wood-based. Are mold and decay fungi equally likely to be found on any wood product, or should you expect differences? Understand which fungi structurally weaken wood. Arm yourself with information about material properties and performance in order to better understand these issues. Learn about inspection techniques regarding the use of moisture meters and interpretation of the readings.

By attending this session, participants will

1. Learn about the basic requirements necessary for fungal growth on wood and wood-based building products

2. Understand the basic chemical constituents that make up wood and how these affect durability, particularly regarding resistance to fungal growth

3. Discover why some fungi structurally degrade wood, by how much, and why others don’t
