Going Green & Solar with Affordable Housing

Find out about the projects Southface - North Carolina is conducting to integrate solar technologies and green building practices into affordable homes in the state. Hear how they FINALac05Bro.pdfconvert traditional affordable home designs into passive solar designs, understand the reality of cheap solar water heating in climates with winters, and value the details and costs of incorporating green building programs into affordable housing. The session will also cover how students from Appalachian State University became involved in the project -- from the design stage to construction.

By attending this session, participants will

1. Learn the details of efforts in North Carolina to take affordable housing "beyond high performance"

2. Find out the major hurdles faced in implementing solar water heating and passive solar designs in affordable housing projects
