Forum: Verifying Insulation Effectiveness for Existing Homes

Most wall insulation is installed in existing homes without the possibility of visual inspection. It is almost impossible to inspect the quality of air sealing and other preparation work for attic insulation after the insulation is in place. What can be done to ensure that this insulation work is being completed properly when we can’t see it? Learn methods to verify that insulation is installed effectively. Bring your own ideas to share for a fun and interesting short course.

By attending this session, participants will

1. Explore the latest techniques for installing and verifying the effectiveness of ceiling, wall, and floor insulation in existing homes

2. Understand the importance of proper insulation density, installation technique, air sealing, and quality control

3. Learn about quality assurance from both the perspective of low income weatherization and the private sector
