Residential Energy: Technical First Principles & Practical Applications

Our homes are buffeted by energy transactions and all involve a degree of waste. However, more waste allows for greater opportunities for savings. This session will frame and analyze a range of efficiency and conservation options from a “whole house” perspective reflective of a “whole society” perspective. Examine key end uses of fuels used for space conditioning and electricity; view a master chart showing the savings and interactions associated with baseload and space conditioning measures. The results suggest a number of conservation strategies not currently in widespread practice. Prepare to help redefine and push the envelope of conventional wisdom.

By attending this session, participants will

1. Understand the conversion and flow of energy from their sources through their uses in homes

2. Learn how global energy use, costs, and trends are connected to residential energy consumption and the consequences for more effective efficiency-saving strategies

3. Hone your ability to offer meaningful explanations of energy, and related environmental and economic matters both large and small

Keywords: advanced, baseload, comfort, communication, cost effective, economics, efficiency, electric, emissions, energy efficient, environment, fuel source, interactions, resource efficient, state of the art, modeled results, savings, sustainability, systems, tactics, utility, water, whole house
