MT 02 - Multifamily Buildings Symposium

Multifamily Buildings Symposium

There are significant limits to our knowledge about the workings of large residential buildings and the ways to improve them. There is also a great deal to be learned about program designs that will get owners, managers, and residents to implement those changes. As multifamily housing programs across the continent tackle new challenges in energy efficiency and building performance issues, operators rapidly bump into gray areas.

This intensive two-day symposium will explore cutting edge tools and current program initiatives in critical areas, such as performance testing in large buildings, infiltration and IAQ problems, building operations, modeling software, and other analysis tools. Issues include first cost impacts of efficient design and operations, establishing energy targets for efficient buildings, and quality assurance tools for design, construction, operations and maintenance (O&M).

Sessions in the symposium are structured so that attendees learn from each other, so that together we can improve existing programs and design new multifamily initiatives.

Explore the following topics

· Capabilities, complexities, and shortcomings of modeling software and analysis tools for high-rise multifamily buildings

· Auditing buildings and analyzing energy use patterns

· Protocols and challenges of measuring infiltration and unit-to-unit air movement in existing and new buildings

· Advanced technologies for water heating, ventilation, space conditioning

· Multifamily Buildings O&M: Top Ten Mistakes

· Roundtable on pilot ENERGY STARŪ program models for high-rise multifamily buildings
