Refrigerator Replacement: Diagnostics to Decisions

Refrigerator replacement has been expanding in utility and weatherization programs. This session will review some of the auditing approaches used, including short-term metering and adjusted rated usage, and report on a detailed metering study that compared different approaches. The study conclusions differ from most “conventional wisdom,” particularly with regard to the length of metering needed.

By attending this session, participants will

1. Explore the pros and cons of different refrigerator auditing methodologies

2. Find out about the accuracy and decision making impacts of different approaches and how they may affect program savings and cost-effectiveness

3. Learn about a simple approach for making replacement decisions based on adjusting the rated usage
