IAQ 3

Do You Really Want Your Basement in Your House?

This session will cover structural and design issues related to basements. Explore how they can create conditions that negatively affect indoor air quality, health and safety, comfort, and building durability, especially when located within the conditioned main body of a home. Examine the variables to consider when deciding whether or not a basement should be connected to the rest of the building and included in the conditioned living space.

By attending this session participants will

1. Find out the structural and design issues that effect the quality of indoor air in a basement and the variables to consider when deciding if a basement should be part of the conditioned space

2. Explore ways to isolate a basement from the conditioned air of the main body of a house, and reduce negative impacts on the building

3. Learn how to test a basement to see if it is, or has the potential to, negatively affect the IAQ of the conditioned main body of a house
