This 66-page file is from Michael Blasnik and Jim Fitzgerald’s workshop at the 2007 ACI Home Performance Conference. They present lessons learned from years of home weatherization about what retrofit measures save the most energy in existing homes and which ones are least effective.
This 4-page online article describes how energy savings are now a tradable commodity and how home energy raters and building performance contractors can participate in this new marketplace.

This link downloads Dr. Bernd Steinmüller’s keynote address to the 2007 ACI Home Performance Conference, in which he describes the premise, history, and success of the Passiv Haus movement in drastically reducing the energy use of new and existing single- and multifamily homes.
This 47-page file of Don Fugler & Jane Thompson’s workshop at the 2007 ACI Conference describes a Canadian Mortgage Housing Corporation (CMHC) study of total energy reductions in 20 Ottawa homes. Study reports energy use per person and by floor area, the variability of energy use and reduction based on occupant behavior, and the characteristics of homes with the highest and lowest environmental impact. The basis for action was providing feedback to inform people how their use of resources compared to their neighbors.
This 11-pg report by Bob Hendron of the National Renewable Energy Laboratory describes guidelines for improving the accuracy of simulating energy savings from retrofits.
