Lessons Learned from New Construction

  • Advanced Systems Performance Evaluation

Building America Report on Redding Showcase Home.pdf, Davis Energy Group, Chitwood Energy Management, January 2006.
This link downloads a 19-page report by David Springer of the Consortium for Advanced Residential Buildings (CARB). Project goals were to apply quality construction practices to build – in the hot dry climate of Redding CA – a production home that uses 50% less (space heating, cooling and water heating) energy than the Building America Benchmark, and to compare simulations with measured energy use.

  • Energy Use Monitoring At the Redding Showcase Home

Redding Showcase Home final Report.pdf, Davis Energy Group, Chitwood Energy Management, December 2006.
This link downloads a 54-pg report that details a one-year post-occupancy energy monitoring of the new Redding Showcase home described in the previous reference. Highlights: annual space cooling energy use was 0.60 kWh per sq ft conditioned floor area, and peak demand was roughly 0.7 kW/1000 ft2.

  • The Rose House

Here SERA Architects describe a new (in 2004) 800 ft2, net-zero-energy, accessory dwelling unit in Portland, Oregon.
