DEEP 6 - Cost-Optimized Low Energy New Homes: Case Studies

Thursday, February 05, 2009  ·  1:20 PM - 2:50 PM

Optimizing investments in energy conservation and energy generation components is important in the realization of cost-effective carbon-neutral housing. For example, how does one decide whether to invest in better windows or in photovoltaic panels? This session will explore this issue through a survey of built prototype houses and case studies, with a focus on breaking through cost barriers to achieve radical energy-use reductions.

By attending this session, participants will

  1. Understand the economic optimization of achieving carbon-neutral housing
  2. Be challenged to rethink assumptions regarding what is practical and possible
  3. Identify synergies between highly energy efficient housing and superior thermal and IAQ comfort
