DEEP 2 - Affordable & High Performance: New Construction & Rehab Case Studies

Wednesday, February 04, 2009  ·  1:30 PM - 3:00 PM

Representatives from two initiatives will share how they have developed comprehensive systems for affordable housing with high standards for indoor air quality, energy efficiency, and durability. Learn from case studies that integrate the following essential elements: system optimization, clear specifications, effective training, technical support, and continual improvement through monitoring and evaluation. Both approaches incorporate superinsulation, very tight enclosures with mechanical ventilation, and nontraditional approaches to space heating.

By attending this session, participants will

1. Learn lessons from two affordable housing providers who are building durable and energy efficient single family homes at costs comparable to standard, lower performance housing
2. Understand the implications of optimizing whole house system performance rather than focusing on isolated components
3. Recognize the importance of communication, training, feedback for continual improvement, and commissioning in achieving sustained results
