OPP 3 - New Opportunities: Electronics & Heat Pump Water Heaters

Wednesday, February 04, 2009  ·  3:30 PM - 5:00 PM

As utilities achieve higher penetration of their usual conservation programs, it’s time to recognize the opportunities that are on the horizon as a result of changes in consumer trends and improved technology. Consumer electronic loads are now larger than refrigeration in many homes - some are only fifty percent efficient. More heat pump water heaters will soon be available, and will be a big share of the region’s 6th Power Plan.

By attending this session, participants will

1. See field monitoring results from plug load and consumer electronics studies, and hear technology, program and policy approaches to making this load more efficient
2. Get to know how heat pump water heaters work (at an efficiency greater than 100%), and the manufacturing and distribution market characteristics
3. Find out some of the most promising applications for heat pump water heaters
