DUR 1 - Combustion Safety & Energy Efficiency: Good News - Bad News

Wednesday, February 04, 2009  ·  10:20 AM - 11:50 AM

In both new and existing homes, combustion safety needs to be a priority. Review the potential hazards of combustion appliances including wood stoves, fireplaces, gas stoves, and gas and oil-fired furnaces. Discover the opportunities to increase their resilience to achieve long-term, safe operation. To achieve safety, the use and operation of combustion appliances must be seen as part of the house system. Find out how well intentioned efficiency efforts can have adverse consequences

By attending this session, participants will

1. Recognize the areas of vulnerability in both new and existing homes for products of combustion including carbon dioxide and backdrafting and spillage
2. Identify opportunities for more resilient venting systems through code compliance and / or equipment selection
3. Have increased respect for whole house interactions
