FUND 2 - Conveying Energy Concepts: Energy Use, Cost, & Carbon Impacts

Wednesday, February 04, 2009  ·  1:30 PM - 3:00 PM

Join Mike O'Brien, Green Building Specialist at Portland's Office of Sustainable Development, for a user-friendly introduction to the fundamentals of energy in residential buildings - how is energy measured, what does future energy supply and cost look like, and what are the climate impacts of our choices of energy end-uses Most importantly get ideas on how to effectively convey key energy concepts and the benefits and costs of action to energy consumers.

By attending this session, participants will

1. Gain a conceptual framework that includes a rudimentary understanding of energy generation and supply, residential energy terms, as well as the climate impacts of building end uses
2. Begin to be able to use basic concepts and yardsticks to interpret and convey energy performance
3. Learn about the carbon content of fuels and relative climate impacts of equipment and envelope options
