Martin Thomas

Martin Thomas, Graduated  with a BSc. Honours Degree in “Fuel & Combustion Science” from Leeds University in the UK, he subsequently completed an M.Sc. in “Energy Conservation  & the Environment” at Cranfield Institute of Technology, also in the UK

 

Martin worked for British Gas as a Senior Scientist / Engineer for 10 years and subsequently for the Canadian Gas Research Institute as a Research Engineer, where he worked until 2002.

 

In 2002 Martin left the Canadian Gas Research Institute and joined the CANMET Energy Technology Centre – Ottawa (part of Natural Resources Canada) as a Research Engineer, where he is now working in the Integrated Energy Systems Laboratory.

 

During his career, Martin has developed  an advanced gas fireplace / furnace combination with zone control (patent issued for this), Studied combustion products plume dispersal, studied commercial  rooftop heater technologies, developed an Industrial IR drying system, was Involved with ECM motor evaluations, took part in performance standards development, combo-system testing, water heating evaluations, and unit heater performance testing. To name but a few activities.

 He is actively involved in the Canadian Standards development process as a member of several Technical Sub-Committies reponsible for a variety  Residential, Commercial and Industrial technologies, including storage and instantaneous water heaters, furnaces, IR Heaters and Packaged Rooftop Units. 

Martin also provides technical support to the Office of Energy Efficiency as a part of their policy decision making process.
