CARB 1 - Climate Change & the Residential Sector: Concepts & Terms
Tuesday, April 08, 2008 · 10:00 AM - 11:45 AM
Many terms are being used to describe programs that result in energy savings: greenhouse gas reductions, weatherization, demand management, global footprint reduction, carbon, achieving net-zero, sustainable cities, etc. In this first session of a three-part track to address climate change and the residential sector, find out how these programs relate, how the savings or goals of one program compare to other programs with different nomenclature, and how measured savings are generally good news no matter how they are described.
By attending this session, participants will
1. Be introduced to the concepts of residential savings (in energy, carbon, greenhouse gases, etc.), including estimates of what is possible
2. Be able to compare the goals or accomplishments of their programs versus those of another agency, even if they use different units
3. Review a case study where a sequence of changes results in lower energy usage and reduced emissions
Keyword(s): annual energy, baseload, billing data, climate mitigation, cost savings, efficiency programs, energy efficient, evaluation results, green house gas emissions, lessons learned, measured results, sustainability, zero energy
