CONS 3 - Community Efficiency & Sustainability Initiatives

In the absence of federal action, communities around the nation have taken on innovative efficiency and sustainability initiatives both at the local government level and through grassroots nonprofit organizations. This session features communities working to stimulate the economy, improve social equity, and benefit the environment. These efforts demonstrate successful models of efficiency, renewable energy, and climate programs as addressed in different regions from various angles.
 
By attending this session, participants will
 
  1. Examine Boulder, Colorado’s successful climate action programs which use the nation's first carbon tax with dedicated funds to reduce greenhouse gas emissions
  2. Explore a Northwestern Pennsylvania community’s approach to energy efficiency and renewable energy for homes, schools, congregations, and nonprofits, lacking significant government or utility programs
  3. Learn about a model for determining per capita energy use on a national basis, comparing it to local use and determining an individual action program to significantly reduce carbon emissions
