NEW 5 - What's New with Baseload? Plug Loads & More
Thursday, February 22, 2007 · 10:20 AM - 11:50 AM
Electric baseload is historically driven by hot water, appliances, and lighting use. More recently, “electronic products” -- like TVs, computers, and their peripherals -- account for an increasing, though often invisible, share of residential plug load. Most of these devices contain inefficient AC/DC power supplies, and now consume more energy in active mode than in their various low power modes. Explore research / evaluation results and policy opportunities for both traditional baseload and newly emerging electronic products.
By attending this session, participants will
- Review historical context and relevant evaluation results of baseload energy use
- Explore recent research on emerging residential “electronic products” load, including entertainment, information technology (home office), and battery charging products
- Recognize current and future opportunities in consumer education, policy making, research, and program implementation
