HOR 5 - European Zero Energy Retrofits
Thursday, February 22, 2007 · 10:20 AM - 11:50 AM
Learn how the Austrians and Germans are retrofitting homes to use little or no off-site energy for heating. See examples of advanced windows with U-factors as low as 0.15. Understand the passive-house philosophy of heating a home with ventilation air of 25 cfm per person. Hear an explanation of the new compact HVAC unit functions that include an HRV, ground-source heat pump, and water heating system.
By attending this session, participants will
- Recognize the potential for positive synergy when retrofits are evaluated as part of a systemic approach rather than individually
- Be challenged and inspired by the lessons learned from European zero energy residential retrofits
- Appreciate the potential for more aggressive energy retrofits than we are accustomed to in the U.S.
