Emerging Issues in Residential HVAC

The federal rating method (SEER) is a poor predictor of energy use in hot-dry and other extreme climates. In addition, equipment is "always" significantly oversized. Ducts "always" leak and have too much pressure drop. Equipment refrigerant charge is "never" right. New approaches are addressing each of these areas, promising at least twenty-five percent savings.

By attending this session, participants will

1. Become acquainted with state-of-the-art sizing and installation issues

2. Learn more about robust equipment and research on modified rating methods

3. Frame the value of these issues to ACI stakeholders
