A properly designed and installed duct system quietly delivers the correct volume of air to an intended space and makes all the rooms comfortable. There are three things it should not do. It should not leak more than a skosh, create pressure imbalances, or operate at a static pressure outside of the HVAC system manufacturer’s recommendations. Learn how to design, install, or specify duct systems that will deliver conditioned air efficiently without creating adverse effects on the house, occupants, or HVAC system. Explore the importance of register selection. Distinguish the challenges of attaining comfort in high performance and two story homes.
By attending this session, participants will
- Understand the relative importance of proper airflow, duct insulation, duct leakage, and duct location on the efficiency of forced air heating and air conditioning systems in different climates
- Recognize options to bring ductwork within the thermal / pressure boundary of a home
- Discover sources of duct specifications and ways to set standards that provide quality installation
