Medical Perspectives of Unhealthy Homes

Three allergists with expertise in the field of respiratory disease, asthma, and other indoor environmental conditions will discuss the health effects of poor indoor environments. A building investigator will discuss methods and materials and demonstrate instruments used in finding and identifying the various pollutants related to environmental disease.

By attending this session, participants will

1. Be aware of the major biological and non-biological pollutants that are present in homes

2. Learn about the clinical symptoms of patients living in these environments, and the possible biological mechanisms involved

3. Learn what construction problems lead to mold infestations in newly built homes that create occupant health problems
