Wood Products: Mold & Decay Fungi

Many building materials are wood or wood-based. Are mold and decay fungi equally likely to be found on any wood product, or should you expect differences? Learn which fungi structurally weaken wood. This session will arm you with tools, in terms of material property information and related performance implications to help you better understand these issues.

By attending this session, participants will

1. Learn the requirements necessary for fungal growth on wood and wood-based building products

2. Find out what chemical constituents make up wood, and learn how these affect durability, particularly regarding resistance to fungal growth

3. Discover why some fungi structurally degrade wood, by how much, and why others don't

Keywords: building materials, durability, humidity, moisture, mold, performance, rot, structural integrity, wood, wood products
