BEY 8 - Breaking the Cost Barrier - Re-Evaluating Cost Effectiveness

Safe, durable, energy effective design and construction is achieved by knowledge and experience not extra money, point systems, or guidelines. Chris Benedict and Henry Gifford will illustrate their strategy for energy efficient design that doesn’t cost more, with examples from their portfolio of over seventy buildings built and remodeled over the past twelve years in New York City. This session is appropriate for both technical and non technical audiences and will explore application of principles discussed to other housing stock.
By attending this session, participants will
  1. Understand the importance of a systems approach to building design
  2. Learn about the calculations necessary to understand building loads and equipment sizing and the creative design decisions that are influenced by these calculations
  3. Appreciate the importance of the team collaboration necessary to invent and develop economical solutions for good building design
