AIR 8 - Demystifying the Airs Combustion, Ventilation, & Make-up

Thursday, August 17, 2006  ·  1:30 PM - 3:00 PM

Over the years we have become more concerned with combustion safety, acceptable indoor air quality, and house pressures. However, understanding, measuring, and providing the required “air” can be a challenge. At times combustion, ventilation, and make-up air all work together; at other times, they seem to work against one another. This session will define possible problems and present systematic solutions.

By attending this session, participants will

  1. Understand the methods for determining if adequate combustion air is available to appliances and, if not, how to ensure an adequate supply
  2. Be able to size ventilation fans for acceptable indoor air quality
  3. Find out how to determine if make-up air is needed to reduce pressure imbalances
  4. Recognize how the “airs” interact

KEYWORDS: backdrafting, combustion, IAQ, pressure balancing, ventilation
