EVAL 2 - Measured Savings Vs. Deemed Savings

Wednesday, April 21, 2010  ·  1:30 PM - 3:00 PM

While most programs rely on deemed savings to estimate energy savings, concurrent evaluations utilize in-situ measurements for real-time feedback to energy efficiency (EE) program managers. Resultantly, EE programs can be optimized on a quarterly or monthly basis, and the risk of misallocation of resources that may result from decisions made on outdated deemed savings may be minimized. Salient results from recent real-time and traditional “lagging” evaluation are presented and discussed.

By attending this session, participants will

  1. Understand the necessity, limitations, and appropriate application of deemed savings estimations
  2. Identify the primary factors that can lead to potential discrepancies between deemed and measured savings
  3. Appreciate the role of in-situ measurements and concurrent ("real-time") evaluations as a tool for program optimization
