MFD 01 - The Devil in the Details: Superinsulating Existing Home Walls

Monday, April 27, 2009  ·  8:00 AM - 5:30 PM

There's only so far you can go with wall cavity insulation - heat loss through framing has a significant impact on overall wall performance. Modifying existing home walls to increase R value to 25 to 50 is being increasingly explored and demonstrated. Examine a variety of approaches to substantially increasing performance. What are the options for products and assemblies? What are the details that insure a durable, highly performing wall? How good is good enough?

By attending this session, participants will

  1. Be able to identify the benefits and key details that will help to insure a durable, high performance wall
  2. Evaluate different approaches to window and door installation for appropriateness to their jobs
  3. Understand criteria and constraints that effect the appropriateness of one wall insulation strategy over another
  4. Consider applying superinsulation on a project in the next year
