HOUS 8 - HUD Code Housing: From Zero Image to Zero Energy

Thursday, April 30, 2009  ·  10:30 AM - 12:10 PM

Efforts are underway at US DOE and HUD to improve HUD code manufactured housing via voluntary programs and building codes. HUD code housing represents one hundred to two hundred and fifty thousand homes per year, built to pre-emptive federal regulations. Proposals to NFPA-501 Standards on Manufactured Housing and HUD's Manufactured Housing Consensus Committee (MHCC) have been submitted with the hope of making HUD manufactured housing more affordable, energy efficient, durable, and healthier.

By attending this session, participants will gain a better understanding of

  1. HUD code housing program building science related issues and opportunities to improve codes
  2. US EPA Energy Star manufactured housing programs in the Pacific Northwest and nationally
  3. US DOE Building America Industrialized Housing Partnership past and present activities
  4. Lost opportunities in new construction that require future affordable housing more expensive weatherization efforts
