SHLL 8 - Venting Cathedralized Attics & Ceilings

Thursday, April 30, 2009  ·  10:30 AM - 12:10 PM

How do you vent a roof with living space, when it's a maze of dormers, hips, and valleys? Unvented roofs and conditioned attics can make a lot of sense. Venting is intended to mitigate potential moisture problems, but it can create them as well as solve them. In this session we'll look at venting strategies - why, what, and how, as well as look at successful applications of unvented roof assemblies. Along the way we'll see what the building code says, and what the risks are - even when you follow the code.

By attending this session, participants will

  1. Explore when to vent and when not to (the attic that is)
  2. Have a better understanding of the moisture movement in and through both vented and unvented attic assemblies
  3. Learn from our mistakes and successes in creating an unvented attic
