ACI Home Performance Conference 2009

MULT 7 - Fire, Smoke, Foam, & the Codes

Thursday, April 30, 2009  ·  8:30 AM - 10:10 AM

“Don’t hurt the house.” Many of the products used in multifamily buildings affect compliance with local and national building and fire codes. Foam sealants and insulation boards need to be appropriately chosen for both energy efficiency and fire protection. Air sealing materials may or may not be acceptable in areas that require firestopping. Learn how to properly specify materials to avoid putting the house out of code compliance.

By attending this session, participants will

1.      Understand how different building materials contribute to fire risk and recognize the difference between combustibility, smoke generation, and flame spread

2.      Learn where firestops are needed

3.      Find out which products and applications may violate fire or building codes and which ones can increase code compliance and fire safety
