MOBL 7 - Case Study: Building a “Green Collar” or Energy Efficiency Workforce in Wisconsin

Thursday, April 30, 2009  ·  8:30 AM - 10:10 AM

A “Green-Collar” workforce must be developed to respond to the challenges of high energy prices, climate instability, and increased funding. Several initiatives are underway in Wisconsin to increase the pool of building science trained contractors and weatherization installers and auditors. In order to develop and maintain a high level of skilled contractors, installers, and energy auditors, a mix of training methods is utilized. Learn the ups and downs of in-field mentoring, in-state certification, “on-the-job” training pilots, and more.

By attending this session, participants will have the information necessary to

  1. Discuss effective training and technical assistance methods and techniques as well as important differences related to Home Performance with ENERGY STAR and a low income weatherization program
  2. Identify possible solutions to energy efficiency workforce challenges
  3. Assess the challenges of managing skills for a large contractor or weatherization staff base
