ACI Home Performance Conference 2009

BUS 6 - Changing Consumer Perception & Demand

Wednesday, April 29, 2009  ·  2:00 PM - 3:40 PM

Over 70% of the American population thinks their home is energy efficient, and 61% don't believe they use more electricity today than they did five years ago. The number one home improvement they think they should make to most drastically reduce their electric bill? Install new windows. Consumers sometimes don't understand why they should invest in higher-efficiency appliances, blow in extra insulation, or even simply caulk and seal their homes. Suzanne Shelton of Shelton Group will present insights from three of her firm's national consumer attitudes studies: Eco Pulse, Utility Pulse, and Energy Pulse. Investigate what consumers really think and understand about efficiency and green, what messages will motivate them to change their behaviors and how to communicate / advertise most effectively to different consumer groups.

By attending this session, participants will

  1. Explore results from three national surveys on consumer attitudes
  2. Determine what messages influence consumers to invest in home performance
  3. Discover ways to communicate with clients on energy efficiency measures
