BEY 6 - Low Load Challenge: Rethinking Mechanical Systems
Wednesday, April 29, 2009 · 2:00 PM - 3:40 PM
Low load homes pose the opportunity of rethinking how to create interior comfort. A paradigm shift occurs once conservation and thermal envelope design is considered the first step in designing the mechanical system. The result is potentially simplified, minimized, integrated, and versatile mechanical systems, which can work in a variety of climates with minor modifications. Explore technical systems, both those on the market now and others that are just emerging. Find out what has been learned from laboratory and field testing.
By attending this session, participants will
- Understand the implications of a well insulated building enclosure on systems needed to deliver comfort, indoor air quality, and hot water
- Identify options to rethink the systems that deliver thermal comfort, indoor air quality, dehumidification, and hot water, and the potential for integrating some of these functions
- Recognize the features and performance of specific products and systems that will and won't perform
