SUST 6 - Building in Nature's Image
Wednesday, April 09, 2008 · 2:00 PM - 3:40 PM
Participate in an evaluation of sustainable design and construction methods, materials, innovations, and technologies. Examine how ecological performance standards can be integrated into the design, construction, and operation of buildings and communities by building “in nature’s image.” This session challenges traditional green building audiences to consider the value of nature’s standards. The session will relate ecological strategies to human health and performance as well as financial return on investing in natural capital.
By attending this session, participants will
- Identify human and ecologically sustainable performance standards for our built environment in the context of actual green building rating systems
- Consider a case study home built and certified under the LEED® for Homes pilot program and NAHB green building guidelines
- Contemplate how to translate leading sustainability theories such as natural capitalism, biomimicry, and cradle to cradle design into practical, universal guidelines for the built environment
