Wednesday, April 09, 2008 · 10:35 AM - 12:15 PM
Although energy efficiency is a well-known attribute, green buildings also deliver water efficiency, improved indoor air quality, and reduced negative environmental impacts. Making affordable housing green can be challenging if initial costs are increased. Examine new and existing affordable housing projects that are meeting LEED for Homes Green Building Rating System™ requirements. A detailed case study with performance data will be presented on a unique green apartment complex renovation project.
By attending this session, participants will
- Understand the strategies used by affordable housing project teams to meet LEED for Homes and other green building criteria
- Learn how to estimate energy and water savings using short-term billing data, and see a comparison to a more typical one-year analysis
- Discover creative ways to increase the stock of affordable housing by encompassing operating cost and comfort benefits of green housing
