FUND 4 - Ducts: What Matters?

Thursday, February 22, 2007  ·  8:30 AM - 10:00 AM

The primary function of the duct system is to provide comfort for the occupants. What does it take to do this well? Poorly designed and installed duct systems can lower equipment efficiency and capacity, cause the early death of compressors, lower air filter efficacy, and create a chain of negative indoor air quality events. Recognize how well-intended changes in a duct system can cause problems for the HVAC system, house, or occupants. How do you recognize a big opportunity for improving system efficiency?

By attending this session, participants will

  1. Understand how duct systems are intended to work, and what problems occur when the system is poorly deigned or installed
  2. Find out what we already know about energy efficiency and duct modifications
  3. Respect the potential for unintended consequences to occur when changes are made to a duct system
