ThPM 04 - Central Air Conditioning: Actual Vs. Predicted Performance

Thursday, April 10, 2008  ·  1:30 PM - 5:30 PM

In spite of years of training, certification, and commissioning, there is still a significant gap between the rated and actual (field) performance of air conditioners. This session will explore the primary reason for the gap in performance - the assumptions in the standard lab tests do not represent field conditions. Air conditioners regularly cannot lower humidity sufficiently in moist climates, and remove too much moisture in dry climates. Explore what can be done to correct performance gaps.

By attending this session, participants will

  1. Recognize many factors that are responsible for the difference between rated and installed AC system performance
  2. Explore methods and efforts being made to close this gap
  3. Leave with a set of tools that can be used to ensure installed performance is closer to the system’s rated performance
