Modular home building presents unique advantages and challenges to creating energy efficient and green homes. This session will address what makes a home green, and outline the roles and responsibilities of the manufacturer and builder in producing a green home. In addition, clarification of the ENERGY STAR® certification, comparison of the NAHB and LEED® standards, and responsibilities for the building envelope will be discussed.
By attending this session, participants will
- Learn about what it means to be “green,” green features that commonly comprise a green home, and the roles of manufacturers and builders in producing a green home
- Recognize the requirements for ENERGY STAR® certification specific to modular construction
- Be able to compare and contrast the NAHB and LEED® green building standards for residential construction as they apply to modular construction
