ELEC 5 - Lighting: CFLs & Beyond
Wednesday, April 09, 2008 · 10:35 AM - 12:15 PM
Legislation calling for the eventual ban of incandescent light bulbs is being drafted in states and countries, including the US. To what extent do energy efficient products in the market meet the challenge of satisfactorily lighting the homes and apartments we live in? This session will also evaluate new lighting products and technologies (e.g., solid state or LED lighting) to assess their potential to provide greater benefits than commonly available and used energy efficient lighting products.
By attending this session, participants will
- Be able to identify ways that changes in compact fluorescent lighting technology have improved products and made them a more viable alternative to a variety of incandescent and halogen bulbs than was true throughout the 1990’s and into the 2000’s
- Be able to list which household lighting applications and fixtures continue to remain difficult to successfully retrofit with CFLs, and why
- Understand where new lighting technologies, such as solid state or LED products, work most effectively and can potentially provide a cost-effective alternative to present lighting strategies
