PROD 5 - Poly in Walls: Evil or Necessity?
Wednesday, April 25, 2007 · 10:40 AM - 12:20 PM
Recent years have been tough on poly. It has been maligned as the evil membrane, causing moisture problems and mold. However, poly had been serving for years in northern climates as both a moisture diffusion barrier and part of the air barrier. If you take it out, what happens? This session looks at research in progress on the poly / no poly conundrum.
By attending this session, participants will
- Be re-introduced to the basics of moisture movement in above- and below-grade walls
- Find out how the poly and no poly walls have been functioning (Warning: graphic mold shots will be shown)
- Discuss the implications of these findings for walls in your houses
