Inadequate design and installation can lower equipment efficiency and capacity, lower air filter efficacy, kill compressors, and create a chain for negative IAQ events. Even well-intended changes can cause problems for the HVAC system, house, and occupants. How do you recognize a big opportunity for improving system efficiency?

- Understand how duct systems are intended to work and what problems occur when the system is poorly deigned or installed
- Find out what is known about energy efficiency and duct modifications
- Respect the potential for unintended consequences to occur when changes are made to a duct system
